Neck Pain

What is Neck Pain?

The vast majority of neck pain is classified as "Mechanical Pain."

Due to long-term poor posture (such as forward head posture), the pressure on the cervical spine increases exponentially. This leads to muscle overuse and tightness, joint wear and degeneration, ultimately causing pain and stiffness.

Chiropractic Neck Adjustment

Common Symptoms

  • Muscle tightness and pain

  • Limited mobility and stiffness

  • Headaches

  • Pain or numbness in the hands

Who is at Risk?

Neck pain is usually the result of accumulated long-term bad habits:

  • Poor Posture: Turtle neck posture.

  • Office Workers: Computer screens positioned too low causing slouching and forward head posture; incorrect keyboard or mouse positions causing shoulders to shrug during use.

  • Stress & Emotional Tension: When people are stressed or anxious, they unconsciously shrug their shoulders, keeping neck and shoulder muscles in a constant state of tension.

  • Sleep Factors: Using a pillow of unsuitable height.

  • Lack of Exercise: Muscle imbalance leads to muscle compensation, resulting in pain.

  • History of Trauma: Past whiplash injury or sports injuries.

Physiotherapy Treatment

  • Modalities: Ultrasound, Heat Therapy, Electromagnetic Therapy, Interferential Current, etc.

  • Manual Therapy / Dry Needling

  • Therapeutic Exercise: Such as deep cervical flexor training, scapular stability training, and specific stretching exercises.

  • Posture Adjustment

Home Care & Prevention

  • Adjust Screen Height: Ensure the top edge of the computer screen is at eye level to avoid looking down or shrugging.

  • Hold Phone Correctly: When using a mobile phone, hold it up to eye level.

  • Regular Breaks & Stretching: Take moderate breaks and perform neck stretching exercises; avoid facing the computer for too long without moving.

  • Heat Relaxation: Apply a hot towel to the neck and shoulders for 15 minutes to promote blood circulation.

  • Check Pillow Height: Ensure your pillow supports the natural curve of your neck.

When to Seek Professional Help?

  • Pain, numbness, or tingling extends to the arm, hand, or fingers.

  • Weakness appears in the arm or hand, or there is difficulty gripping objects.

  • Headaches increase in frequency or severity.

  • Long-term neck stiffness has begun to severely affect work efficiency or sleep.
